Shift work disorder is a prevalent sleep problem, characterized by difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep during the desired resting hours. Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to an increased risk of medical errors, accidents, and long-term health problems. Other common sleep disorders among healthcare workers may include insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy. Proper sleep hygiene, seeking medical help, and prioritizing self-care can help healthcare workers cope with these sleep disorders.This course will prepare nurses with a better understanding of the science behind the practice.
